Witches in 17th century England
The Puritan religion was very suspicious of woman back in England during the 17th century. They believed that certain woman committed and were responsible for original sin. They also thought they could avoid temptation. Woman considered witches were usually woman who didn't marry, woman who were well educated about medicine or woman who lived on their own. England officials even hired a witch finding general, named Matthew Hopkins. Witches were put on trial and then executed by drowning, hanging or burning them at the stake.
