Parliament
Democracy is a government that is controlled by the people who live under it. It encourages participation of citizens and grants civil rights. Our Canadian democracy comes from England's democracy. The English people created the Magna Carta which was one of the most important events of developing the democratic traditions that we use today. It is a great Charter that guaranteed the English people certain civil rights and allowed individual freedom throughout England and Its people. It stated that the king must consult the parliament before he made new law or change in the way that England and the parliament runs. Throughout the 17th century England went through many political changes such as the two Eras: Tudor Era and Stuart Era. The Stuart Era was when the kings started going against the rights and laws of the people. This eventually led to the English Civil War.
