The Triumph of parliament
With the execution of King Charles I, England was now a republic; a country without a monarchy in power. Charles I son should have become the king but Rump Parliament voted to abolish both the monarchy and the House of Lords. Many people were angry with this decision so to ensure people were with, not against, the republic the Roundheads threatened anyone who disagreed. This lead to the fight with Scotland which England won and Oliver Cromwell ruling England, taking over parliament forcefully, and dividing the country.
